I just realised about this on Friday when I went to sign up for an account with my work credit union (which I should have signed up for long ago as their are reductions in loans and such if you’re a long-time member). Anyhow, I was in there looking at brochures and was thinking about retirement and how I really should get cracking on it. As a teacher in NYS I have some money going towards retirement but I have no idea how that all works. I have no idea how much to put into an IRA account when I start one and am unsure if I want an IRA or if a CD would be better or a 401k of some sort? I heard other people mentioning about their employers matching or such, but I’m not sure if my work place offers that.
I fear I’m in trouble as I’m 27 and my husband is 30 and not even living in the USA legally yet! How much will we need to start putting aside? What are our best options? I appreciate any help and advice from people who are dealing with this at the time.
Thank you,
Sissy
