I lived and worked in Japan for two years. Learnt Japanese while in the country. Which makes it easy because you are surrounded by it.

Its not that hard if you buckle down and do some study to start with. Learnt Hiragana & Katakana by typing text messages on a mobile phone to Japanese friends. Kanji came later on.

A Japanese girlfriend is also great incentive.
