spend more time with my grandparents

Yesterday I decided it was time once again to spend time with my grandmother. I watched the movie “Click” this week. And it got me thinking about how quickly time slips us by. I always say “Don’t blink because if you do your kids just may grow up.”

I had lunch with grandma and we spent time just talking. I also took our picture together. So she became my ‘picture of the day.’ Grandma looked good but it never takes much and she brings herself to tears. The last 3 times I have spent time with her she has cried. Her tears are about grandpa being gone and how she hopes she made good decisions when he died. She also cries about when they sold their home and the things she left to be sold in the auction. I don’t know if there is anything I can say or do to help her feel better. Maybe all she wants is someone to listen.

A year ago my grandfather died and I spent a great deal of time with him before he went. I have fallen back into my old habits of not visiting grandparents and I really need to go visit grandma since she is the only grandparent I have left. Her health is not the best. And when I have seen her…..in my opinion her spirit is gone. I guess that happens when you loose the man you spent 65+ years with.

I went today to visit my grandpa who got out of the hospital but is now in a home. He looked very good and says he pace maker is working well. I brought him a pineapple shake (his favorite) and he thought he would get into trouble by the nurses for having it (although I told the nurses I was bringing him one). He looked like a child in a candy store with it. Next week I am going back with a Wendy’s bacon cheese burger and I am also bring a voice recorder so I can record his stories (which he tells lots of). It was a nice visit! Looking forward to seeing him again next week.

My grandparents are getting up there in years and there days are getting more and more limited. My grandfather was back to the hospital today with heart problems. I have to take the time to see them as much as possible.
