i’ve always wanted to learn to play bridge. recently, i found a great old 1930s “autobridge ‘teach yourself bridge’” set at a thrift store, ninety-nine cents, complete. i’m going to work at it a little each day until i can understand it.
i’ve always enjoyed playing cards; i’m a gin rummy demon, but also enjoy spades, hearts, euchre, and a game that i’ve heard variously called ‘mau-mau’ and ‘screw your neighbor’ and ‘last card.’ my dad and i used to play cribbage everytime we went camping together, but that’s been a while.
the trouble usually seems to be that it’s hard to find people to play with. if i can learn to play bridge well enough, there are clubs in the city for people who like to get together and play on weekends.
