I’m changing my goal. As I mentioned in the last entry, a major reason to not actually learn French is that it could become a dead language at any moment. But that’s when it hit me, a dead language is actually exactly what I want. I’m much less likely to be caught speaking fake Latin than speaking fake French. Also, speaking a dead language is like being a foreigner wherever you go.

By ‘speak French’ I don’t mean I want to learn how to speak French. That would be too time-consuming; there are literally HUNDREDS of French words! And all of them are different from English words. Plus there are dead languages, like Latin and Greek! Who knows when French will become extinct, just like Latin and the Dodo. It’s too risky to actually learn. I just want to be able to speak French passably to someone who has no knowledge of the language; thereby wooing and impressing folks with my exotic foreign banter.
