Ta-dah! 2 years ago

OK, about 100 days of breakfast… Unfortunately, on July 21 (day 100), I missed ;)

But I made up for it today, with a big Canadian brunch at my place, six people, waffles, toast, eggs, bacon, tons of juice, hash browns and wine. The French are typically astonished by hash browns—potatoes for breakfast? But they loved them today (although I have to admit that they were more baked than fried).

Lots of maple syrup to celebrate 100 days of breakfast!

Was it worth it? Yeah, why not. I can’t say that it made a huge difference, but it certainly didn’t hurt.

In the home stretch... 2 years ago

Okay, I had a piece of leftover flan for breakfast today. Not exactly nutritious :) I’m still on track for July 21st (100 days of eating breakfast). I think that I can justify calling this “done” even if I’ve missed a day or two in there.

Am I going to consider it “WORTH DOING!”? Not quite sure yet. Really, I haven’t noticed any considerable difference in concentration or energy or focus. On the other hand, it hasn’t killed me yet either…

Breakthrough in breakfast? 2 years ago

I woke up hungry today. This rarely happens. So I had two bowls of some sort of crunchy granola muesli stuff—I have no idea what’s in it, I just get it because it’s organic with ecologically sound packaging. Just like me!

I really have no idea why this morning was different than any other, but it’s particularly nice. I’ve gotten too used to feeling like I’m forcing breakfast down…

Another guest, more breakfast! 2 years ago

One of the things that really helps me keep on track (for breakfasts) is having a houseguest.

There’s a chain of events that work against breakfast, especially getting up late and a lack of motivation. Having someone in the house helps me out for both of these!

Vanilla Activia yogurt 2 years ago

I found something that I can eat in the morning without it turning my stomach. Hooray!

Either that, or I’m just getting used to eating in the morning.

cookies... 2 years ago

... so I got back from traveling again (for some reason, I find it easier to eat breakfast on the road). And after a month of guests, trips to Lisbon and London (twice), my place is completely empty of food.

Yesterday, I had the typical French breakfast of coffee and pain au chocolat, which is a bit buttery for my daily consumption, but today… lemon cookies. That’s nearly the last of my groceries.

Hmmm. Still, it is breaking the fast :)

Dry toast. 2 years ago

Alright, I’ve gotten into the habit of eating something in the morning. I don’t enjoy it (yet), but I’m doing it.

I’ve been bending the definition of breakfast-time (in the previous entry), but all-in-all, it’s been pretty consistent.

Now I’m thinking about breakfast content. What should be in a healthy breakfast? Obviously both fast and slow carbs (getting up to speed and staying there…) but how much of my days requirement should I be aiming for?

Trying to look up stuff online, I get a lot of information either about children and school programs or dieting tips. I’m really not interested in losing weight, or feeding any specific children.

What exactly *is* breakfast? 2 years ago

I checked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Breakfast on Wikipedia. They noted that “the erosion of breakfast has been an ongoing trend in the West since at least the early 20th century…”. I’m very alarmed!

Anyway, I’ve decided to define my definition of breakfast a bit better—it’s the meal that occurs (a) within a half hour of getting out of bed and (b) before or with coffee.

Thus, I woke up at 9h30 this morning, but I didn’t eat toast until 11h00. That shouldn’t really count as breakfast, should it? How about waking up past noon, but having a hearty lunch immediately?

So close... 2 years ago

... but I didn’t miss breakfast. It was about 11h30, so it was definitely approaching brunchtime, but I got in a rice cake under the wire.

One more day, and that’s twenty breakfasts! I’m going to mark this done (and keep eating breakfast).

Long weekend... 2 years ago

Well, a few days of yogurt and one of the breakfasts slid into brunch. But, all in all, I haven’t missed The Most Important Meal since I started :)

The hotel for our Lisbon trip includes a breakfast buffet—so that should be pretty easy!

I’m getting used to eating in the morning, but it still isn’t enjoyable…
