I’ve just been randomly practicing during the week, and for some reason my times have gotten worse and worse. It’s taking me twice as long as I was doing them last weekend, if I’m finishing at all. I seem to be flubbing the finish half the time.
I’m not necessarily working for speed—although that’s certainly a good marker for “expertness”.

I can solve a cube in about seven minutes now… not too impressive, but I’m not working for speed yet. Since I used a “method”, I’m trying to really capture and understand how it works.
It’s really very fascinating…

I used the internet as a hand. I started to learn a method that seemed to make sense to me at http://lar5.com/cube/
The page is loaded with Java applets that are particularly suited for my way of learning.
Solved my first cube! But now I need to memorize some of the moves and strategies… I think I’ll refine this goal to be able to solve the cube in a certain time limit, but for now I’m just going to practice.
Hey, maybe I can take it on the metro?!
