...a woman in California. It never occurred to me to look for a pen-pal here in the US! It might be fun!
On the bad side: I have not yet heard back from the Scottish woman or the Kenyan gentleman. What a shame, they both sounded so nice….

in response to the woman from Scotland. Here’s hoping!
And, I’m still postcrossing, too, which is LOTS of fun!
She seems very nice. I’m going to write her back this weekend!
He says he likes to trade things (stamps, etc.). I hope that he will be interested in writing letters, too. Well, we’ll see. He sounds very nice!
I never heard back from the woman in the Seychelles that I wrote to. So, I wrote a letter of introduction to a gentleman in Kenya. I hope he answers me! If not, then I always have eight more names on the list to try. Unless of course, the company cheated me and gave me all fake addresses…. :(
I paid $20 to International PenFriends to get a list of 10 names of people who want penpals. It finally arrived! There are several from England, one from Ireland, one from Scotland, one from Kenya, one from South Africa, and one from the Seychelles! I should get some awesome correspondence (and stamps!) out of this. I’m going to start writing this weekend.
Postcrossing is going great, too! I have 5 postcards in the mail, and confirmation e-mails that two of my cards were already received in Brazil and the Netherlands. I can’t wait to start getting my own!!!!!
I found out about this site from another member of 43T! It’s awesome! I’ve already got one postcard in the mail to Brazil, and I can’t wait until the recipient registers it so I can get a postcard, too!
PS-I really like www.bookcrossing.com, too!
During college (and after, to a certain extent), my best freinds and I stayed in touch via letter, rather than phone. Of course (and I’m dating myself here), that was when long-distance and overseas calls were frighteningly expensive. Yes, that was even before cell phones!! I want to recapture the fun of looking forward to each day’s mail, and not always get just bills. Plus, I like to collect stamps, so I’d love to have an overseas friend to trade stamps with.
I’ve sent off a form to PenFriends International, just waiting for the magic list to show up in the mail!
