I’ve been really focusing on this goal the past week. It’s hard but I’m getting better at controlling my habit and realizing when I’m doing it. The hard part is stopping once I realize but I’m doing that too. I really messed up my right thumb the other day to the point of blood, but otherwise I’ve been doing well. Now that it is healing, I have to just be vigilant and not mess with it.

It’s so helpful to know that other people do this too and I’m not a disgusting freak. Hope everyone else is doing well with this goal.

My hands are so ugly. I don’t know why I can’t stop this. When I meet new people I know they are looking at my torn up fingers and wondering what is wrong with me. I know it has a lot to do with stress & anxiety but that doesn’t make it any less embarrassing, and it doesn’t make it any easier, especially when I consider myself a failure because I can’t control myself.

I have completely stopped biting my nails, but some of this bad habit still lingers. I hate myself sometimes when I do it. I’m getting much better, but I need to just stop completely. My thumbs are the worst. I know I do it when I’m nervous – I just have to stop. Getting a manicure helped for a while but unless I do it regularly I don’t think that will work. Good luck to everyone else trying to get over this – it sucks to do something automatically that you don’t really even want to do. It’s so ingrained into my behavior I don’t even notice when I do it.
