So after running 2 miles, then doing four sets of lat pulldowns, tricep extensions and bicep curls, my trainer told me to drop and do pushups this morning. My arms were already burning from the workout (and actually hadn’t fully recovered from my Saturday workout). He’d shared with me that he’d done 52 himself though admitted he paused at the top of the 40th one before cranking out the last 12. That motivated me to keep going to 50. I probably could’ve cranked out the two more to tie him or three to beat him, but since I didn’t pause at 40 I felt I beat him. I also didn’t know what he had planned so I wanted to keep some reserves. We then proceeded to do more sets as he kept reducing the amount of break between each set. So after that first fifty I did two sets of 20, three sets of 10, one set of 6, then three more sets of 7. These last 4 sets were killers because he made me touch my chest to the floor on each of them instead of hovering a half inch above the floor as I normally do.
