Mollie and Julie were joined in Milwaukee by Lisa and they had a wonderful time, such a wonderful time that they forgot to send out any postcards. So Mollie sent me this one and signed Julie and Lisa “By Proxy”. I’m counting it anyways because it’s the thought that counts, right?

THE COUDERSPORT ICE MINE located four miles east of Coudersport, Pa. on U.S. 6, Roosevelt Highway, is a wonderful freak of nature. Fantastic ice formations appear during warm weather but melt on approach of winter. Color photo by Richard C. Miller
While searching for the present I bought for Judith’s birthday, I came across this postcard that she had sent me a while back. I’ve lived here in Coudersport since 1991, but have never been to the Ice Mine because the people who own the land haven’t maintained it and don’t give tours anymore. Now it’s basically a junk yard and the ice doesn’t really form anymore anyway.

If you haven’t bought and read S.C.’s book yet, you should. (Yes, I’m taking advantage of getting a postcard from him to shill for him. Go ahead and report me to the Neighborhood Watch.)

This was actually the first card MFM sent me, but it took the longest to reach me. She shared that she volunteers here giving tours of a Frank Lloyd Wright house.

James Ensor (1860-1949) / ‘Fireworks’, 1887 / Oil and encaustic on canvas, 40 1/4” x 44 1/4” (102×112.5 cm) / Collection Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo, New York / (c) 2001 The James Ensor estate c/o Beeldrecht, Amstelveen / Reproduction prohibited.
MFM visited an art gallery that I see commercials for all the time but have never made the time to visit. I’ll have to plan a trip to Buffalo to go there, possibly on my next trip to Canada. While described as fireworks, before I read the title for this art I thought it was going to be a volcano or even possibly fall folliage.

This former 43er sent me this card via Postcrossing. She was introduced to Postcrossing the same way I was, through 43Things. She and I have chatted since I got the card and she shared that she left 43T because she’s trying to live her life instead of spend it online which is something I’ve encouraged many of our 43ers to do. She’s actually gotten rid of a number of social networking sites, and the only thing she’s kept is Postcrossing. She shared that she was aware of my presence on 43T though we never truly interacted here.

Happy hula greetings from the seashores of Hawaii.

BP sent me this card as a belated birthday greeting, and to cheer me on as I head off to Hawaii to complete my 50 states goal. She’d been to Oahu a couple years ago and still had some postcards from her trip.
