Go to Hilo

I bought my plane tickets, so now as long as the weather cooperates and I’m not grounded, I’ll be getting to Hawaii in plenty of time for the marathon. I also routed myself through a couple different airports on the way to and from Hawaii so I can pick up more state postcards to help out 43ers who are looking for state cards. I’ll be stopping in Phoenix on the way out, and then Charlotte on the way back.

I should’ve booked a month ago and saved myself 50% on the registration for the race, but I forgot about that deadline. I’m registered now though and just have to book my flights and also talk to Mahinui about booking her place for the nights prior to the race. Volcano is a bit too far away for me for a 6am race start so I’ll be staying at a hotel in Hilo the night before and of the race.

There is also a 5K and Half Marathon that you can run if you don’t want to do the full marathon. My hotel room holds up to four people, so if someone wants to share just let me know.

I’m planning on going to Hawaii to finish off my 50 states goal, and am thinking that running a marathon would be a great way of capping off that goal. The Hilo Marathon happens on March 21, 2010 so that’s my target date. Now I’ve got six months to do the planning and to encourage others to come run with me as well as party with Mahinui. So fellow 43ers who run, how about a trip to Hawaii for either a marathon, half-marathon or even just a 5K all of which take place the same day.
