I read that 40% of your overall happiness is self controlled. The other 60% can be due to genetics, chemical embalances, etc. I may have no control over those things but that 40% is mine, and I am going to max that 40% out!!! I wanted to identify some things that I know make me happy and things that are known to help everyone feel happy. So here is a beginning list of some things I plan to do to get energized and happy:
1. exercise – this is something that is so simple and yet I ignore it all the time. Exercising builds confidence, breeds endorphines, releases stress, and helps you look better, which makes me feel better! Just because I cannot afford a gym right now doesn’t mean I cannot go out and run, do yoga, or do a dvd.
2. eat_healthy – I am not saying that I will never have dessert, I love dessert! But I am saying, I should be eating healthy 90% of the time. It really does make a difference.
3. flowers – having fresh flowers in my room is an instant pick me up and reminds me to be cheery. They let me be close to nature within the city. I am going to have fresh flowers ALWAYS in my new apartment.
4. bright_colors – wearing bright colors not only makes me feel brighter, but it is proven that when you are wearing them, other ppl are more cheery towards you in reaction to the colors, which therefore makes you happier again!
5. brightcolorsx2 – I also want to have bright colors in my room, to cheer me up, I have a white comforter which I like because it is airy, but maybe some happy bright art in my room and some bright pillows will do the trick.
6. social – being social is good for happiness. I am naturally a homebody but I like to go out to dinners and shows, and I need to be better at planning things with friends. I am going to set a goal to plan 4 outings with friends a month, and to make more phone calls, write more emails, etc.
7. have_goals – I think having and reaching goals is a way to feel purposeful and motivated. Knowing my goals and then setting up plans for them will be fulfilling and rewarding.
8. omega3*oils* – helps the brain function!
9. upbeat_music – totally can affect your mood!
