I’ve been terrible at getting a picture taken every day, but last night the area around my home was hit by a blackout at around 7pm, and my first thought as I walked though the streets plunged into an unnatural darkness was to grab my camera and take some pictures.
Now, figuring out how to set up your camera for long exposure, low light shooting is pretty tricky given there isn’t any light, but a quick phone call to my Sister pointed me in the right direction, and a chair doubled up as a tripod for a collection of shorts.
Non of them worked very well by professional standards – a tripod would have made a massive difference, but as a learning experience it was great, and I did get a handful of interesting shots I’ll sort out on flickr at some point soon.

I just picked up a digital SLR camera, so I really should kick this goal up again. Since I actually have options in how I shoot things now, rather then just been stuck with my phones limit options. (It’s great for party snaps and nights out, but has no range or flexibility)
So this goal will be good for learning just how to get the most out of an SLR – Though I will be calling on my little Sister for help there, in the mean time I should try and find some good websites and blogs on photography – anyone got any recommendations?

Some turned out great, some didn’t – pretty much as expected. It’s been a bit of a challenge, particularly when it was raining on a work day – not much opportunity to find a good shot.

Just to add a bit more interest, and add some variety to the pictures I take, I think I might pick a different theme every week for my pictures. Just a word or short phrase to motive and inspire.
Does anyone have a suggestion for me?
