What is living passionately? 2 years ago

Reading through the various entries I can see this means different things to different people. For me there’s two main components to achieving this goal. On the one hand, when I think of someone who lives passionately a “bon vivant” comes to mind – a happy person who enjoys good food, good wine, good music and good company. The other is avoiding a rut – always seeking out new and different things to do.

When I was a single gal living in the big city I remember one afternoon where I saw a Philippine dance recital advertised in the paper and decided to go, then found an antiquarian book fair going on a few blocks down. My roommates remarked that I always found quirky & interesting things to do in the city. I want to be that girl again.

I think I’ve fallen into the common rut of parents of young children, where everything revolves around the kids and you stop trying to carve out the time or opportunity for pursuing your own interests.

Fortunately, my daughter recently started preschool and I now have THREE AFTERNOONS all to myself. I don’t know what to do first!

I’m planning to use Monday and Wednesdays to catch up on my writing – another goal of mine, but I’ve decided to devote Fridays to exploring and experiencing and rediscovering the things that I used to enjoy.

This past Friday I went downtown to a bead shop and made myself a pretty bracelet. The Friday before that I checked out a local art gallery – I love art, but rarely go to galleries or museums anymore cause the kids get bored and antsy. I love my kids, but there are some things that you just can’t do with them in tow, and I don’t have a babysitter. That should be another of my goals, find a babysitter I can trust with the most precious things in my life.

Here's another favorite quote of mine- 2 years ago

“A life lived in fear is a life half lived.”

I have this one framed and sitting on my dresser. I wish I could attribute it to some great philosopher, but I got it from the movie “Strictly Ballroom.”

Living Quote 2 years ago

“There are those of us who are always about to live.
We are waiting until things change, until there is more
time, until we are less tired, until we get a promotion,
until we settle down—until, until, until. It always
seems as if there is some major event that must occur
in our lives before we begin living.”
