My parents are suddenly more accepting of studying abroad, despite the cost. I decided that I would have to compromise between what I ideally want to do and what my parents will allow. So, I told them that I wanted to do wwoofing in Australia or New Zealand (free with an ever so cheap $1500 insanely long round trip flight! maybe I should go to Canada), as opposed to some sort of volunteering/program in a third-world country. This whole approaching-the-topic-with-reason thing seems to be opening thier minds a little…maybe I will end up doing the study abroad program that I want in China. Maybe not… If I do end up wwoofing though, as long as I’m there, I should take more time to explore the country, which would require finding some sort of tour-like thing…

I didn’t finish this by the time I set, but I have made a slight bit of progress…kind of. I’ve looked through some jobs available, but they just seem random or I don’t know how safe these places are or I wouldn’t be qualified. And it would probably cost me more to get there than I would make/my parents would never ever let me. And all the internships seem to be unpaid/actually cost money. So, my best abroad option seems to be a relatively cheap volunteer/internship thing (some things are unbelieveably “cheap” compared to cross cultural solutions, but at least ccs seems reputable), unless I can convince my parents elsewise. Maybe I’ll think more about working at home for this summer and do some cheap/free volunteering. I just feel like I’m letting valuable time slip away though…I’ll keep searching.
I kind of NEED to do this now.
These are the general options:
1) Work (at the place where I kinda of have a part time job secured, or maybe some sort of beneficial internship, or maybe abroad??).
2) Study Abroad (since doing it for a whole semester doesn’t seem possible with the classes I need to take)
3) Take physics if by some really small possibility I could study abroad for a semester (even though I already didn’t fill out the forms…I just need to get those people to be nice to me.)
4) Volunteer Abroad (not free…not good).
5) A comination of any of the above.
There are just sooooo many things. I don’t know which one(s) is/are right. I need to save up some money for what will hopefully be my year off. My parents don’t want to spend extra money for studying abroad over the summer instead of not extra money for doing it during a semester. I don’t want to take a class (just going to be subborn about this one). Volunteering is less expensive than studying abroad, but not cheap and therefore probably not an option in my parents’ minds. I think what I really need is to work abroad. Or here, I guess, if all else fails. I could use a cool paid internship. But something I really enjoy, because last summer was like a flash forward to the real world in which you don’t like your career path, aka hell. Now, where in the world am I going to find that?
The search begins.
