I’m not sure how it all started but at the end of my first year of university I decided that I wanted to climb Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Africa. I was excited at first, and wanted to go right away. Reality set in and I realized that I should wait until I was finished my undergraduate degree.
Years later with my university education end in sight I began to research all things East Africa. The plan snowballed. Why go to Africa only for 8 days? Painful and exhasting 8 days? Go all that way and never experience safari or the beaches on the Indian Ocean? And then what about victoria falls. Okay its far, but still doable. And the dunes in Namibia. And then I discovered the Bazbus, a hop on, hop off backpacker bus travelling the coast of South Africa. I started to read travel blogs and travel books and realized that backpacking in Africa didn’t have to be ‘scary.’ (Providing I had a travelling companion) With a combination of tours, planes, trains and automobiles it could be done.
