I simply can’t do it. I stand around, feeling awkward and out of place; feeling like the uninvited guest at a party. Part of it is my fault; I simply can’t bring myself to pretend to be interested in the things people seem to be saying, let alone participate. How is it that everyone else does it effortlessly? As I stand around, being silent, I start to feel smaller and smaller; I sometimes think if I got any smaller or any more invisible I would fade away to nothing.
