The last time I was in India was in 1997. I’d been there once before, in 1995, where I spent the most incredible 5 months of my life. I went back on an impulse in 1997, stayed another 5 months, and the only thing I regret is getting on the flight home, back to real life. It’s been nearly 10 years now, but not a month goes by when I don’t think about it, about the people I met, about the way I felt, about the things I saw; not a month goes by that I don’t think about going back. Not enough time, real life always gets in the way. But I finally decided to bite the bullet and go back, last summer; more than a little afraid, what if the magic was gone? But I got my visa, booked my flights – then the BA catering strike happened, and my flight was cancelled. Maybe this just wasn’t meant to be. I’m back to dreaming about it again, but it seems to be a little further than it used to be, somehow.
