030.

I started the fad of wearing tights under my skirt in Catholic school. Then the most popular girl started doing it and of course, everyone started to.

Hella pissed.

029.

I went to Catholic school, I think I established this already. One day it was snowing and we had a two hour delay. When the time came, I went outside to my bus stop and waited. And waited. And waited, until someone pulled up and said, “I think they cancelled school!”

Hella pissed.

028.

In third grade, my teacher pulled me aside after class. She got me to say the word idea, which was one of our spelling words. I guess I spelled it “idear.” We laughed.

027.

Man, remember Catholic school when it was okay to get points for bringing in tissue boxes? Where everyone assumed everyone was rich? Good times.

Also, teachers really liked when you brought in those Clorox wipes, and gave you more points for those.

Do you even need extra credit when you’re in 4th grade? Let’s be honest.

026.

We had three cats. Amelia was mine, Bear was my dad’s, and Midori was my sister’s. I don’t know if it was supposed to be that way, but that was the unspoken way things were.

Midori was the queen of the house. She and Bear were in love. Amelia was the new one who was just a hot mess all of the time. Midori was so beautiful and graceful. Bear had scratches from the girls. I loved that cat so much. I loved all of these cats. But Amelia was mine. I have a scar on my forehead from her.

We gave them away after dad died. We gave Bear and Amelia to a barn. I never saw them again. Midori had to be put away a few years before that because she had cancer.

Cancer has spread through my family in so many different rivets, now that I think about it.

025.

I had a career Barbie once. She was a baker. She actually came with a little mixing bowl and packets of stuff you could mix together, which was just a mess and a bad idea. I hope I remember that when I have kids. Note to self.

I remember my dad’s friend “Slammer” and his lady came over but I couldn’t be bothered because I had this new Barbie who was a baker.

024.

One time there was a snake on my back porch!

My mom is from the Philippines and when she was younger, she was bitten by a snake and almost died! :o

So when she saw this Gardener snake on the porch, she freaked out and was petrified. I had to go around to the other side of the house to get in and call my dad.

So we identified it and my dad’s like, uh, it can’t hurt you. And my mom was still freaking out.

Cuuuute.

023.

When I was in 7th grade, Sarah made me audition for the Cabaret at our school.

That was the start of everything.

I sang Proud Mary and the high school directors moved me. The boy asked me to sing it again, but to just let it all go. I did and got a shitload of solos. Holla at you, little Mary.

022.

This is a darker entry.

I remember one night my sister beat up my mother, enough for the cops to be called and for my mother to spend time in the hospital. I was probably four.

I remember walking out to the porch, blinded by the red and blue flashes in the darkness, to see my father who was crying.

We held each other and cried. This was the start of us being the only thing in the world for each other.

021.

One time my sister locked me into our bedroom and cut off my hair. I was in 2nd grade. She cut chunks. I ended up with an uneven bob. Whatever parent was there flipped shit.

Had to take my school picture that year like that.
