The cello is one of the most incredible instruments that anyone can play if they are willing to put time and effort and feeling into their playing. It has a deep, rich, expressive sound, and is as versatile as the violin. While some of the music can get too basic, (note to the Palladio down there: I could have died playing that part) a cello in an orchestra or symphony sets the ground work for the strings. The violins are playing a noodely sort of piece, with a bunch of sixteenth notes, but the cellos are laying the foundation. Without a cello, you have no harmony – nothing to ground a violin. A cello is a satisfying instrument because it is low enough to have a rich sound, but high enough so you can play melodies or other interesting pieces.
