a nice book about the craziness of being a Jew in the 17th Century between Protestant Christian intolerance and the Spanish Inquisition in UK and Europe and the liaise faire religious life in the New world.
Good on the history, and character development.
Her first book, I hope to read more.
He’s got this plot thing that no body can come close to competing with, seriously. The plot twists and gets going at some crazy angles and it just pulls you along. the roller coaster analogy is apt here, and not a cliche.
BUT
the sleaze in these books is just so thick, I feel like I want to wash my hands every time I put the book down. Like the only place to read a book like this in on the john.
I don’t think that I’m reading any more of his stuff. I’m don’t care about prostitutes and strip clubs, you know?
This was good-entertaining, I like him, if you don’t like this style of British pun and language play you won’t like him. In the same general group as The Hitchhikers Guide and Jasper Fforde, he has intricate plots and surprises and a lot of funny stuff.
And it was the sequel to The Portable Door which was funny and clever, so much so I read it more than once.
the next book is Earth, Fire, Air and Custard. Hope it is as good as these last two.
It was okay, but it lacked something to really put it into gear. THe mystery wasn’t a grab-ya kind of thing. It also felt overyly wordy. She got the style right but it felt like a re hash of Austen in someways.
Ian Rankin is always good.
This one is about Malcolm Fox, the main character from his book The Complaints.
So far good, interesting. Still haven’t figured out who the bad guy is, though.
She is a favorite author of mine.
I’ve read three of her books, all historical fiction and they are excellent: March, The year of Wonders, and People of the Book.
