Improve my Sewing Skills

My daughter wanted me to save her favorite blue jeans since they are now too tight for her. I went to Sewing.org and found a way to create a skirt out of her jeans. The problem is that her jeans have embroidery of all of the NBA basketball teams. Yes, she is a basketball player and taught all of the boys in the neighborhood how to play (the girl’s got SKILLS). Anyway, this makes cutting and positioning a NIGHTMARE! I’ll try to create a skirt which is not too tight or too short, yet really cute. This project must wait until tomorrow. I’m tired!

I learned to do a straight stitch, a rolled hem and sewing elastic into a waistband. I also learned to add braiding and beads with a serger. Now I can join the serger club to create some projects. Sewing.org has been helpful with hemming garments.

I purchased a Husqvarna serger this summer and it remained in the box until last week. Joann Fabric’s offers three new owner classes where they teach you how to operate the serger. I have learned so much and I’m more confident while using my machine. I’ve repaired two torn velvet blouses, but now I will make my son some sweat pants.
