This isn't really cooking  — 8 months ago

My city has the best caramel corn in the world, but you can only get it downtown. Since parking is $26, I refuse to go down there. I read a cookbook that had a recipe for caramel corn. My first batch tasted like Cracker Jack’s. My second batch was thick and chewy, but not the flavor that I wanted. The third batch was PERFECT! I added some flavoring to the mix and my child ate several bags. It was really good.

I’ll learn how to cook, when men stop cooking for me. I have that effect on men. They always cooked me dinner. In the meantime, I’ll make desserts.

I have found the solution.  — 10 months ago

I purchased the “Betty Crocker Cookbook: Everything You Need to Know to Cook Today” cookbook. It was only $12.46 at Sam’s Club and shows EVERYTHING! It instructs you how to shop, how to prepare, and how to cook just about everything. Tomorrow, I will try grilling. We lived in an apartment when I was a kid, so I never barbequed anything. Tomorrow I will use my grill – not the George Foreman one – the real one, the WEBER. I’ll make my own salad dressing for Monday’s salad and make a pasta salad. The book shows how to make veggie burgers too.

Goodbye packaged food, salt and preservatives, because I can make my own stuff. Thanks Betty!

Okay, Thanksgiving was a disaster!  — 1 year ago

I only cook once a year. Yeah, I have a man to cook for me. Anyway, I prepared everything on Thanksgiving day, The ham, turkey, dressing and filling for the pies were all ready and the oven didn’t work! The man of the house knew that the oven didn’t work and didn’t get the oven repaired. He purchased roasted chicken from the store and we ate everything that was cooked on the stove. Now he must buy me a new kitchen. THEN, I will REALLY cook!

Thanksgiving is next week and I must cook for a mob  — 1 year ago

Well, not really a mob, but my family including my son’s girlfriend. I’ll start this weekend and bake the pies and make turkey parts and dressing. The man of the house hates to see a turkey carcass, so we only eat parts. Wish me luck. Hopefully, I won’t burn the salad.

Betty Crocker is helping me  — 1 year ago

This book is amazing! It explains how to pick fruits and vegetables from the store, various cutting techniques and plenty of recipes. It even includes salad dressing recipes. I have saved a bundle. If I didn’t have a man in my life to cook daily, I would be a great cook. Next week, I’ll try to cook everyday. We’ll just fight for the kitchen.
