novels which, when i have read the final page and closed the cover, make me sit still for a few minutes because i feel tangibly moved ; i know that in some way they have changed me and that there is a before and after that novel. if i could ever write something which approached that level and affected someone in that way…well, let’s just say that i would be a very satisfied woman indeed.
