This is another case of natural evolution. I still go out rarely, but I live in The Boonies now, far from most of my friends. Also, work travel and constant adaptation to new places and people is, to me, embodying this goal.
I’m still tremendously uncomfortable around new groups of people, but I’ve deliberately chosen a career which constantly forces me into new groups of people. I like challenging my comfort zone—I don’t think I will ever love thrusting myself into new groups any more than a trapeze will get less scary with practice, but both amount to the same thing: I know I can do it and I know I can adapt.
