and Mogwai with an “important friend.” he told me when they played his favorite song, and i just imagined all the good energy coming from the music into us, and me sending him just a little more and expecting nothing from him, because i was on overload already.
and i saw Sonic Youth live in Tokyo!!!
the cheesy turn-around goodbye he and i had.
finally a good Tokyo experience…
reading Anna Karenina in a cafe/bar by myself and not giving a shit.
did i mention i saw Sonic Youth live in Tokyo?

translated as “it’s been a while.” sorry.
this song and, even though it took place almost 2 months ago, the guy I sang it at karaoke with. and the fact that it’s all about (I think) finding friendship that could turn into something more despite us both being scared.
going to see said karaoke partner in a few weeks for Summer Sonic.
playing the bass, and feeling like it’s an instrument with some balls.
wanting to go surfing again despite the slightly disastrous multiple head-bashing attempt last week. am i deranged?

my cousin made some mp3 format CDs for me a few years ago, which i recently uploaded onto my ipod. all except, alas, the CD that had A Perfect Circle, Every Time I Die and Fear Before the March of Flames and other screamy wonders. i thought the CD was gone forever…
UNTIL… i found it in another case. it was like finding Tutankhamun’s tomb! happy day!
and finding out it’s cheaper to fly to Singapore than it is to go to Tokyo. so i’m going, all alone (well a certain “special friend” of mine lives there) and it’ll be really good for me.

gambatte, ne?
i went to the convenience store last night to get some chicken. the kid behind the counter couldn’t have been a day older than 14, and his nametag said “trainee.” all i had on me was a 10,000yen bill (about 100USD, and perfectly acceptable to break at Japanese convenience stores). poor kid. he took about 5 full minutes to carefully count out each 1000yen bill for my change while i waited patiently. after our transaction was finished, i said “gambatte, ne?” (translates to hang in there, do your best, good luck, etc)and i the smile and “arigatou” from him said it all.

i anticipated being thrown straight back into marathon working tomorrow but the technical college AND the police school are off this week. which means i only have my easy classes this week!
i haven’t felt this elated since those Buffalo snow days….
Radiohead. god. i. love. radiohead.
Yuuki says he’ll lend me his extra bass so i can learn. sweet!
being invited to a traditional Japanese osechi (New Year’s meal) yesterday. stuff like that reminds me how much of this whole “outsider” thing is mental.

of students who answered the question “what is your dream?” with “my dream is to be god.” either they cheated or they planned it. either way it’s hilarious.

sometimes i think life is divided into 3 sectors: friends, work and love. at any given time, only 2 can be going right. if all 3 are going well, watch out because shit’s about to hit the fan.
at the moment:
friends: good.
work: shit.
love: double shit.
work very recently went to shit, which means maybe… it’s time for love to step up. maybe.

“Drunk Salaryman” halloween costume and how everyone i met thought it was a work of comedic genius. you know you’re an outsider when dressing up like the norm gets you that kind of attention.
my kitties… pain in the ass but they disgust me with their cuteness.
another guy (after having a “friend” tell me that i need to stop wearing my glasses and act more “cute” and “Stop Being So Serious and Shy” and more or less stop being who i am in order to snag a boyfriend…)apparently knows me as “the pretty foreign girl who wears glasses. it’s part of her charm.”
Obama. holy. shit.

that “every time a girl acts like Magi-chan (disgustingly “cute” wannabe Japanese YouTube phenomenon), i want to punch my eyes.”
good for the polar opposite to know.
