I’m not easy to get hold of. You have to be quite persistent, and hope you get me when I actually answer the phone (instead of just looking at it…over there out of reach). If you miss me (even more likely given my mobile currently only rings a couple of times) you can leave a message and I will listen to it. But I probably won’t call back unless you explictly state that you’re in a life-or-death situation (in which case you can count on me!).
I really need a seperate business phone, when I had a dedicated phone on my desk within arm’s reach, I always answered it, and ignored my mobile (during office hours). Seggregation helps.
I’m somewhat better about email, and frequently respond within seconds (certainly where money, or reputation are involved), but the rest of time you may be waiting months. Or even years (I have unreplied, and complimentary email, that deserves a reply, from 2003 in my inbox).
I am not however disorganised in the least. I know who’s called and why. I’m just rather skittish. The advantage of this is that if you do catch me, then you can be sure I’ll give you the attention you deserve, because your persistence shows that you value getting hold of me.
I’m sure I can improve on this, but in the meantime, please keep trying, and I apologise that I no longer have amusing voicemail messages to entertain you until you do get me.
