decide what the hell I would like to do with the rest of my life

My personal next step is going to be university. After finishing my year in Rome, I decided to go with German as a foreign language, American Studies and Contemporary German Literature. I feel fairly certain about this choice, at least for the time being. I also chose a city, where I’ll be going to university this fall. So after a long time thinking and rethinking part of my, let’s call it career-plan, seems to stand.
As for the personal and emotional stuff … well, you can’t plan that ahead anyways. I know where I would like to be in ten years, but we’ll see what happens. But right now I am very positive about almost everything.
I can only recommend taking a little break from everyday life. For me it certainly did it.

Two days ago, I read a very interesting article about figuring out what you want to do with your life. It pretty much came down to this: In your 20s you are supposed to try things like change majors, drop out of college etc. to find the things you are passionate about and that truly make you happy. And in your thirties you’re supposed to make those things happen careerwise and familywise. After that there is a short period of thinking, kind of revising, making sure this really is what you want.
It also states that knowing what you have been wanting to do since you were 16 is not better or righter than not knowing anything at all. This was the part that I liked best, because I always envied people that know exactly what they want from life. It does make snse, though, because you change so much from what you had been at 16. Now, I am not saying, that either way is wrong, but now I don’t feel like a complete idiot anymore when people ask me what I want to do now that school is over. I will let things come, taking one step at a time.

I will now officially go to Italy at the beginning of September. I visited my Italian family this Saturday and they are just so great! The kids are really cute and don’t seem to be that much work. And the surroundings are just amazing. Now I really can’t wait – I want this so much now!

I am not going to Iceland after all, because I don’t really think I could deal with the temperature that good (I get light depressions when it is cold and dark outside). So I decided to go to Italy instead. The family I’ll live with sounds totally nice and appearantely the sourroundings are pretty amazing as well. They live half an hour away from Rome in Ostia Antica.
I am really excited now! I think this will be great plus, I have more time to really work on this goal.

So, I might go to Iceland as an aupair. I am so excited right now and hopefully everything will work out well. Ha, this would give me a whole year to think about my future plans.

Well, I researched a little on this one and even though this used to be kind of plan B, I think this might just be it. I now have a profile on Aupairworld and I am now waiting if any of the families that sounded right are interested in me. Well, I am not sure yet, but spending a year in another country is exactly what I wanted, so why not aupair, right?

I am curently not so much thinking about what to do with the rest of my life, but more about what to do after school. I do have a couple of different ideas but so far I haven’t researched enough about them to be really sure if they could be right for me.
So this weekend it will be reserching time!!

1) go to college right away (if so, where and what classes)
2) stay home for another year, working
3) spend another year in the States, either Work&Travel or Aupair (or maybe NYC, working for my dad’s friend)
4) spend 6-12 months in either a Spanish, Italian or Portuguese speaking country (again, Work&Travel or Aupair or maybe just trying to find a job myself)

This is basically what I got planwise. Hopefully I will find something that I really enjoy, any advise or experince is welcome.

I am gonna graduate this year and so I finally need to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life. I know what I don’t want to do and I have acouple of plans for next year. But after that? I am just completely stuck on this one, so I added it to my list of goals. Maybe just as a reminder that I need to think about what I really want. Not just in professional life but also what I want for myself …
