just took a short trip to DC to view the Turner and Hopper shows at the National Gallery. it’s hard to understate the power and grace of many of the works for their. i made a conscious effort to approach their respective qualities and intentions (as well we can imagine them) in these images.

swinging on a thread... 2 years ago

part of a sequence of images of a pine needle swinging on a spider thread in a cedar forest. the tree trunks, the shadows, the spider silk and the glowing needle buffeted in the breeze. all told, it is something of a visceral reaction to the environment at the time. i don’t see it as a discrete image so it’s probably going into a small art book i’m assembling.

bull kelp in film 2 years ago

one of a series of recent floating kelp images. the shimmering surface, the kelp pressing up into the water’s film and the sense of motion within the order/disorder, restive activity trapped between the dark depths below and the bright daylight. for me, the calligraphic effect is striking, vivid and still unknowing. i have a few ideas on how to utilize them.
