In the past few days, I made about 10 phone calls, trying to book a night in or near Edinburgh for this Saturday. Most bed&breakfasts I called were fully booked though. Eventually, I booked rooms on the Heriot Watt campus.
This were not only phone calls. They were in English as well (still in Belgium, speaking dutch :)). The first phone call was the hardest to make. Once I got started, the next ones weren’t that much of a problem.
I actually had much more problems with the uncertainty than with the phone this time. When I called to book rooms on the campus yesterday, I was said to email my details and that I would get back a confirmation. But after a full day of waiting, there still was no confirmation in my mailbox. I phoned again this afternoon and finally received a confirmation a few hours later.
Phew.

...I’m apparently making phone-calls more easily :)
When I noticed that the gym took money from my account twice instead of once this month, I called them to ask for an explanation.

Ringing phones always scare the scrap out of me. What I dislike the most, is that an immediate response is needed.
I hardly ever initiate phonecalls to my friends either. Instead, they usually call me. My prepaid mobile phone card easily lasts an entire year.
At work, however, I managed to get used to the phone. Over there, it’s basically used by colleagues that are too lazy to walk down the hallway to come and ask me something. Same thing here also, though: I won’t make any phonecalls myself. I still prefer walking down the hallway to picking up the phone and dialing a number.
Must learn that telephones are not evil :)
