Dear 43 Things Users,

10 years after introducing 43 Things to the world, we have decided we have met our last goal: completing the incredible experience that has been 43 Things. Please join us in giving one last cheer to all the folks who have shared their goals with the world, as well as all the people who have worked at The Robot Co-op to build this incredible website. We won a Webby Award, published a book, and brought happiness to a lot of people.

Starting today, 43 Things users can export their goals and entries from the site. Starting August 15, we will make the site “read only”. 43 Things users will still be able to view the site and export their content, but we won’t be taking any new content from users. We hope to leave the site up for folks to see and download their content until the end of the year. Ending on New Year’s Eve takes us full circle.

It has been a long ride (one of our original goals was to "build a company that lasts at least 2 years” - we beat that one!) While we wish the site could live on, it has suffered from a number of challenges - changes in how people use the site, the advertising industry, and how search engines view the site. We wish the outcome was different – but we’ve always been realistic about when our goals are met and when they aren't.

2008

I have been accepted in the 2008 London Marathon but I have decided to defer it for a year until 2009.
I did have time to get fit enough to do it but I would of had to really push myself and I’d rather be running properly for a year and have some experience of distance running before I do it so I’m deferring it.
In the meantime I am going getting fitter and getting back into running and start small with a 5k race in around May time and then building up to a 20 mile race at the beginning of 2010.



2009

Well I have been accepted in the 2009 London Marathon. I am in shock about that because I didn’t think I would get in.
I don’t know if I will be doing it next year because right now my fitness level is the lowest it has ever been and I don’t know if I will be able to get fit enough to start training in Jan 09. So I am going to work on my fitness between now and then by starting off with walking first and then using the exercise bike too. I am super unfit so I don’t think it will be possible for me to be fit enough to train but I am going to work on it and at least I will be out doing some kind of exercise which is always good.
I can defer the entry until 2010 anyway and I can defer it even days before the marathon so I don’t have to decide yet which is good.



2007

Well I didn’t get into the 2007 marathon so I will apply next October with hopes of getting in the 2009 London Marahton.



Application Form.

Today I got a London Marathon 2007 magazine and inside is the entry form, I have filled it out and now I need to write a cheque and send it off and see if I get in.
My dad is applying again (he ran it this year) and I hope we both get in, if not we might do the Paris Marathon instead although I really want to do the London Marathon next year. If my dad doesn’t get in and I do I am going to defer my place until 2009 so we can (hopefully) run it together that year.

We don’t find out until the beginning of December if we get in which is a long wait.



Depending on how my running goes between now and October...

I might apply for the London Marathon to run it next year. But i have to see how my running and training goes between now and leading up to my first half marathon in September.
Right now it isn’t going very well because i keep getting ill but I’m hoping to stop getting ill and will see how things go over the next 4 months.



26.3 Miles...

I don’t know how I will do this because I get bored fast, I can’t fun 10 yards at the moment and I don’t like running and never have lol
Hmm…not a good start really!! But I want to do this so much, I know I can do it if I put my mind to it and I know it will be a lot of hard work. I’m not even fit enough to run 100 yards let alone a marathon but I don’t plan on doing this until either 2008 or 2009. I want to do it whilst I am still young and am able to do it. I don’t want to repeat this when I am older, it’s just a goal I want to do once and once only but if I do train for this and do it I will probably do the New York (or similar) the same year before I hang up my marathon running shoes up for good.
I want to prove I can do it and that anyone can do anything they put their mind to. This is the least likely goal I would have and anyone who knows me know this is like a nightmare goal for me and that’s why I want to do it.
I know I will hate the training and the getting fit enough to train but I want to run a marathon in under 3hrs 30 mins and I am determined to do it!!
