Being forced to do something with his Subaru station wagon, since it had a leaking head gasket, Adam finally found a replacement vehicle that he thought was a good value. A couple of weeks ago, he traded in his car and bought a 2002 Ford Escape SUV. It’s in very nice shape and it has lots of nice features. It’s not a “base” model, in the least. But being an SUV, the (city driving) gas mileage so far is not that good.
Being a father and doing my expected fatherly duty, I warned Adam that buying this vehicle would leave him with poor gas mileage. He used to complain about the gas mileage with the wagon, so that’s why I suggested that he buy a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. “Those cars are too small, dad, I wouldn’t have room for all my gear when I go on biking trips.” OK, Adam, be forewarned then. An old, heavy, 6-cylinder SUV means more trips to the gas station. ;)

It was cold again today, -19C for most of the day, plus wind chill. I’m getting tired of the cold wind and cold temperatures (whining here). At least it was Friday!

It is -10C right now (14F) and feels colder with the breeze. Still, the sunshine is nice.
Found out a friend in the choir, D, had surgery this week for a node on her colon, but she is back home after only two days. I’m hoping that her recovery continues to go well. We missed her this morning. D does so much around the church and is so positive and touches so many lives. She is retired now, but used to work as a nurse. Hurray for nurses! :)

Yesterday, we spent the afternoon and early evening at my in-laws. They live about an hour’s drive from here, their home is in a nice rural setting. It was a quiet day overall, but it was good to spend time with them and share a delicious lunch.
The weather was pleasant and the traffic on the way home was light.

Temperature is now 10F outside! It snowed a bit last night, too.

Two days ago, it snowed lightly and there is still a thin layer of snow on the ground, but not enough to cause any problems on the roads. This has been a very mild Fall, but I think winter is slowly starting to settle in around these parts. It is a mild -1C (30F) this morning.

We had our annual Christmas music night tonight at 7pm. Again this year, it was a resounding success! There was a nice turn-out, despite a 5pm Ottawa Senator’s game and the Grey Cup on TV, too! We had a lot of fun and all the different singing groups at our church played a part in the evening’s music. There were some sing-a-long carols, too. So we had pretty good audience participation and there was something for everyone.
