Wow, here’s hoping that today was very special for you, sweet lady.
My mother’s birthday was Dec. 26. Believe me, I’m not going to start associating my mother with you, Celeste, haahaa…but anyway, my mother used to tell us that when she was growing up, having a birthday the day after Christmas was like getting the short end of the stick. She would rarely have a birthday cake, because of the Christmas celebration and she would never have a party or an extra present. My mother was the eldest of 5 children and grew up during the 2nd world war, while my grandfather was in Europe fighting the war. She told me that during that time, because of food rationing and everything, if she and all of her siblings received an orange in the bottom of their Christmas stockings, they thought that was a big deal.
Isn’t it incredible how well off we are these days, compared to in the past? And compared to the rest of the world, we know that the average North American family and those from some of the world’s most prosperous nations are in the top 2 or 3% of “standard of living” in the world. God, let us recognize this, give thanks and continue to try to help the rest of our brothers and sisters abroad.
