FINISHED!!!! 14 months ago

They kinda screwed up with the whole payment withdrawal and took an extra 60$ and reversed different payments here and there. But…

I.
AM.
DEBT.
FREEEEEE!!!!!

I’ll write a more detailed entry about the whole trip later

Just got a message from the SL people saying that the final payment would have to be debited a different way and that I should call them.

Should still be done tomorrow… wish I could call into Dave and do my scream, but I’d never get through.

Final payment 14 months ago

I just called in this morning and sent the confirmation email authorizing them to take the final 226.68$ this week!

My friends are teasing me that I don’t go back into debt for the wine and cheese party that I’m throwing to celebrate :P

Why do they make it so hard to pay? 14 months ago

Okay maybe they don’t, but I don’t like having to make a phone call during business hours to change a payment. I have their email around somewhere, probably in a box somewhere.

I meant to call them to be able to split the final payment over two weeks. I like to protect my money from me. I didn’t get the chance to do it today and Monday’s Thanksgiving, so the banks will be closed. *sigh

I’ll make a note to call them next week to make the final payment on the 23rd. Yay getting my hours back!

Dearest Student Loans,

I knew I never should have taken you out. I later learned that the program that you helped finance was:

Grossely overpriced
Available in my own province
Not for me

And so after I moved to Ontario, I did silly things like using you to finance eating out at East Side Mario’s every night and a 200$ swimming pool membership that I never used. But of course the most brilliant move was not paying my school tuition with you. I used every bit of my savings getting prepared to go to school, so I relied on you a little bit too much.

You’ve been my constant companion for three years now. We’ve been through lean times where I had to put you on hardship deferal and good times where I was paying 300$ a month. But now I say that it’s time for you to find a new home. October 31st is the day that you’re getting your eviction notice. You’re going to have to pack up and ship out, taking your interest payments along with you.

To fill in the void that you’ll leave, I’m looking forward to building up an emergency fund, one that I won’t use to run off to another province to go to school.

Sincerely, your evictor
wbmsic

So close, yet so far... 16 months ago

About 560$ CDN left…

Soooo close.

But I want it gone NOOOOOWWWW! 17 months ago

Now that I can see the end in sight I want to get to it faster damnit!! Christmas is five months away and if I were to double the payments I could knock it out in 2.5 months.

The trouble is that I’ll be moving out of my cheap rent apt and with the new place’s rent it will be very very tight and only doable on 40 hours a week (which I don’t have guaranteed).

So I’m going to call them up and have them double my payments for the last month that I’m here. It will knock off some time. I changed my moving out goal to being for what I need instead of a tangible number. I pretty much have a plan to get what I need with some extra left over. I’ll sit tight for the first month at my new place and see how much wiggle room I have in my budget at that point.

The sooner it’s gone, the sooner I can scream:

I’M DEBT FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

Debt free by Christmas 18 months ago

Just upped the payments I’m making from 16.97$ a week to 38.71$ a week… Making the final payment December 25th, 2008.

Hopefully I can knock them out sooner than that, but I do have other stuff that I’d like to be saving up for.
