My mom made me very aware of the environmental impact of everything growing up. Her grandparents have a small (organically farmed) farm in NJ, and it’s almost completely surrounded by condos now, but they still grow enough vegetables and fruit to feed most of our extended family most of the the summer. In any event, this is really a frame of mind to me, not something that you can ever say “I’m done.”
My allergy to food preservatives helps, I couldn’t eat packaged junk food if I wanted to, so I have to eat unprocessed, organic food. I’m lucky enough to be able to walk to work, and I live a few minutes walk from Pike Place Market which is an incredible source of locally grown, organic vegetables, fruit, and fish.
