Help My 43T Friends acheive their Goals

my goals list.

THis is something I do when I use 43t, I cheer people, I comment on people’s posts, encouraging them, sharing information with them etc etc.

I am happy I’m achieving this goal :-)

Fund 43 microloans through Kiva.org … and i thought i was posting a link but it doesn#t seem to have worked ?? :-S

Of course I want to help my 43t friends to achieve their goals, but I’ve been thinking more and more about this idea over the last week and helping people financially really isn’t what I want to do. I’d far rather help a person learn how to fish, than give them a fish.

Fool with a heart suggest goal buddies, and we’ve hooked up as goal buddies which has been really useful to me… so I’m thinking maybe to set up this goal…but not sure what to call it. Any suggestions anyone??

ok so here goes… hadn’t had much time the last couple of days to make an entry here but now I have a few mins.

Trishku’s entry wasn’t offensive to me. Gemmword sorry but I found your response to it far more distressing. I don’t understand why you saw this post as a personal attack, and your response to it seemed to me to be an attack on Trishku… which I really didn’t like.

Any way.. I’m going to check out the should do thing, I think that’s a better idea as this goal is very general and I think should be left for people joining to see it as what it appears… a general way to help support other’s achieve their goals. But that’s only my opinion.

Unfortunately without realising it Gemword you are the leader… for you sent out invites and people followed your invite…

I did suggest a meeting (Telephone) to discuss the ideas associated with your goal.. the reason I suggested this was inconversation it’s much quicker and easier to make decisions about the direction of what was to start with a very general idea… once the idea has formed a little you can then creat another goal specific to this.. but I guess this is what should do is about.

My initial post voiced my misgivings on providing financial help for people.. and my preference for providing help in other ways. Now I’m very grateful for the site.. because I’ve found myself a goal buddy, which has already proved to be very helpful and inspiring.

Anyway.. can’t think of anything else to say just now… except.. Gemword… please have confidence in yourself and your idea… you are positive… your idea is positive… other people may not share your opinion… just because they don’t share your opinion doesn’t mean that they’re attacking you.

I’ll be your encourager fool with a heart. WHen I read your post I agree entirely… it’s the encouragement, without judgement when you haven’t done EVERYTHING you wanted to that I miss… I’m trying to do this for myself but it’s far more powerful from someone else from time to time.

So here I am I’ll volunteer to be youre “Encourager” how do we start??

Mr Peterson’s reply it was clear to me that they are not going to take any action about this idea. It also means that really lot of work needs to be done… setting up and registering as a charity…. defining guidelines etc. All of which requires effort energy and time.
What you’ll experience now is an apathy… people like other people to do the work so they can say “great work” most don’t like to put themselves out there risking failure, and a lot of effort and energy in the process.

Since my post I’ve been thinking more about the idea and I really am not sure if I want to get involved… on one hand it’s a great idea in principle.. on the other I do feel it’s like feeding fish for a day rather than teaching fishing.

So I guess I’m sitting on the fence, other than to provide support to you gemword, and others who are willing to put in effort to achieve this goal.

It’s a difficult place to be… leading… have confidence in your ideas and positive energy of this project and things will happen. Don’t give up hope.. just keep plodding on wards.

I think prob the next step would be to organise some kind of meeting of those interesting in doing some research on how to set up the idea- maybe a teleconference call (I think skype does them?)

to manifest in a practical way support for others to achieve their goals and I applaude you on a a great idea, and for communicating it so clearly.

My first reaction when I read your entries was as above, but feeling a little aprehension because when money becomes involved it changes the energy of a place (43things website being to me, a place of sorts).

Now I’ve been thinking about the whole idea and I think it could work… if it was an option on the home page for example, and if it was appropriately administered. However…. I wonder, and I’m unsure of whether this is a good idea… I think for me part of achieving my goals is finding how to achieve them, in a real practical way… and this usually involves changing me, my life, my activities, my thoughts etc. It just seems possibly getting “grants” or “Gifts” from a place which in essence support people achieving their own goals, somehow seems to possibly be taking away the achievement aspect of attaining the goal. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” springs to mind, and then also… we do invite experiences to us that teach us what we need to learn. I don’t know I’m just writing down my thoughts as they come to me.

Another possible alternative way to help other achieve their goals is to help them practically. I mean this in the sense that we can find information for people… sources for grants for example, as well as words of encouragement and prayers. Perhaps people who really touch us we can exchange phone numbers and call…. listening is such an underestimated powerful, empowering tool. When one is loved perhaps this is the catalyst for an individual finding their own solution.. (wow!! how empowering to find your own solution, not needing to accept gifts!!)

I really really thank you for your invitation gemmword as this has given me much to think about. I really enjoy helping people and now I’m thinking about how I do this… what is the best way to do this… how can I do more of this. For inspiring my thoughts and for your wonderful loving intention I thank you.
