Make new friends

I’ve made several new friends at work. I’m actually very comfortable with the number of friends I have and I don’t think I want anymore right now.

I actually talked to people first rather than making them initiate the conversation at the party tonight. It was actually rather interesting. I found one great contact and I had fun talking to another girl who was there. There were a few opportunities I could have taken advantage of that I didn’t, but for me, this was a big step. I also didn’t start doing the hostess type stuff and cleaning up for the hostess and that sort of thing. I actually just tried to have some fun at the party.

It seems as if this goal keeps slipping down on my priority list. I’m not really a very outgoing person (my coworkers disagree, but it’s true). In fact, I’m shy. Honestly. You wouldn’t know it, but I am. Heck, who isn’t brave in cyber-space.

I guess part of the problem is that I’m not interested in fair-weather friends. I want friends that fall under the following:
“A friend will post bail, but a good friend will be sitting in the cell next to you laughing about how much fun that was.” The number of people I consider friends I can count on one hand. They’re the ones I think of as sisters.

I have been trying to be a little more out-there, inviting people to go to the opening day of Serenity. Unfortunately, one’s had to beg out b/c of medical problems, and the other couple have a preemie to take care of. It looks like it’s back to just two of us… again.

We’ve got an open house coming up (the family) and I haven’t invited anyone. Grrr… I feel so, inhibited about the whole thing. I’ve got this notion that I’m obligated to only invite friends who’ll get along with my other friends or family friends as opposed to just bringing them all together and seeing what falls out.
