save up 3 months worth of salary for emergencies

Wow. I might actually be able to finish this goal soon. :) I’m amazed.

I have to remember my original goal on this one since my salary has increased this year. LOL.

If I use my original goal I’m 71% there.

If I use my new salary as a goal I’m 57% there.

I’ve got a very slow drip of money into one of my savings accounts for this. I keep a 1000 reserve in my checking account for issues that come up day to day, but that’s different from this. I want a good cushion. This is building at glacial speeds. (about $40 a month), but still it’s moving forward.

I’m half-way to this goal now, when I count up all three savings accounts. I’d forgotten completely about one savings account in my calculations! That makes a big difference. Also, it means the savings are safe from casual usage. Now, I get to start beefing up my “freedom fund” to pay cash for car repairs, etc. I’m saving the three months for a serious emergency, like being laid off.

I’m just shy of 50% on this goal now. I should soon be able to drop it.

I also just signed up for an automatic savings plan that will take $10 a week to drop into this fund. Woohoo!

Well, since I’ve gotten a raise this goal has now moved a bit, changing my percentages.

40.7% to goal!

This has slipped down behind my other savings goals. (money for Hawaii being on the top of the list.) I need to focus on this a little more closely. I’ve got a good start. If I push a little bit, I should be able to do it.
