figure out where all the people like me are hiding

I thought I had made a friendship with someone. Although she is a lot younger than me we have things in common and understand where each other is coming from. However when I see her with her friends it is a different story. I was hurt. I acted like a mature person and pretended I wasn’t. I wish younger people could realize that years don’t change you that much, inside. But I guess that knowledge only comes with age.

I made a comment on a pin a woman was wearing. It was a bull and I asked if she was a Taurus. She said yes, then asked if I was. Then we had a very interesting conversation about books and numerology and psychology. This woman was a total stranger, a customer who I had seen many times at work. She was a lot like me, I just wouldn’t know it by looking at her. We had to talk about things we had in common.

I think maybe this goal has less to do with finding people like me, and more to do with feeling connected with people. To do this may mean focusing more on what we have in common, less on differences. I don’t think I will ever meet someone who is like me. But sometimes people who aren’t like me seem to understand me. Surprising.

I’m and INTJ according to Myers Briggs. Although I am sure I have been and INFJ and and INFP on other days.

I love art, so I thought I would meet people like me in art class, but noooo, not even close.

Maybe people are way too complicated and interesting to be very much alike. There are too many things involved. Background, personality style, interests etc. I think maybe the best we can do is focus on things we have in common.

I have two friends who are more “like me” than anyone else. Reconnecting with old friends has made me realize I have more in common with them than friends I have made as an “adult”.
