I have never walked so much in my life! We wandered up and down the National Mall all day seeing the sites, finally we waited at the bottom of the Washington Memorial for night to fall so we could see the sights all over again, but this time lit up!
One of the highlights for me was realising quite how large the Lincoln Memorial is, TV doesn’t do it justice! Franklin D Roosevelts’ memorial on the far side of the lake was impressive, with all his stages of ruling expressed brilliantly in sculpture and water. Well worth the walk. The most eye-opening was the Vietnam Memorial Wall, all those names listed, it puts it into perspective quite how many people gave their lives.
