About 100 pages of Gormenghast to go and then this is done!
The ladies in the library are going to miss me; well, until I find a new list to complete!

The Secret Garden
Having seen the film and loved it I wasn’t suprised I loved this book!
It’s one of the few classic childrens books I never read as a child. I think if I had owned it when I was young it would now be the worn out, well read, book at the front of the bookshelf!
Is it ok to buy childrens books for yourself over the age of 20?!
I like to think I am determined, but many contradict that with stubborn. But either way I persevered through Ulysses and finished it!
Now, I will be the first to admit it was a struggle, and I can’t ever say I read every single page. But, hey, the book is ridiculous and the only way to appreciate the depth of it is to solely study it for many years, and still there would be more to learn. For now I am happy to have closed the back page and hand it back to the librarian with a chuffed, ‘don’t I look smart’ smile on my face!!
This was a good book, very interesting to grasp the idea of a complete new world invented by Frank Herbert. After finishing this list I think I will carry on to read more of the Dune series.
The mighty tome that is World and Peace is finished. All the other books queueing up on my bookshelf have breathed a long sigh of relief and shook off their dust in the hope of being chosen next. I think the thinnest one will win!
After the first ten pages, I have no idea how this book got on the list? I am going to persevere and hope it improves…it better improve or it’s going to be a dull week struggling through it!
My most recent read was The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, as I read it I began to recognise the story and I realised I had read it before. Most likely, I had just forgotton to cross it off the list, this doesn’t bode well for the book with it being so easily forgotton! I think it needs to be read in the tween years for the story to really stick and create an impression for life that enables a joyful re-read of the story.
I did set myself the personal target of completing this by 1st Jan 2008, but it’s not looking good. By my calculations I would have to read 2 books a day and shying away from the more serious titles has left me with 20 odd massive books to complete! I’m going to set myself another target of 30th June; 6 additional months. Don’t worry I will still complete the forfeit for not finishing them on target!!
I’m reaching the home run on this one (well kind of!) I have about 25-30 left to read and decided to spend my Saturday morning hunting the library for some of the more obscure books (shoddy library!) and to my horror I have subconciously left all of the giant books till last. There was a definate gasp when I saw ‘A Suitable Boy’ it’s a proper effort…maybe it will all be worth it in the end eh!
Just finished The Magus by John Fowles, a bit weird to say the least. I finished it more confused than when I started, but maybe that was the plan! I pledged that I would complete this list by the end of the year, which gives me 172 days. Having only read 46 off the list so far i will have to hurry up and read a book every 4 days to complete it in time, and save myself some money! I blame my library, they never have any of the books and i’m having to order them all in!!
