Yeah, so bad at journaling these days. I did a 30-miler last weekend and have been trying to keep up the bike commuting, but it’s hard when the weather’s gotten so cold so quickly…
Ugh, seriously, I’ve fallen off the wagon on journaling this. I should keep it up though, it’s motivating to see the distance logged.
09/11/09 – 5 miles
09/13/09 – 5 miles
I don’t remember earlier than that.
Also, I use my bike a lot for commuting and running errands (as you can see by my distances, they’re not huge). Which is great, but I’d like to make time for some longer rides. I’ve just been really busy and haven’t had the chance to properly plan out some longer routes!
09/02/09 – 7 miles, 3 of that with a heavy load.
I had to buy 2 gallons of distilled water for something at work, and it was just easier to hop on the bike and get it at the supermarket. I got there and back in half an hour, probably the same amount of time as it would’ve taken with a car- my coworker was open-mouthed when I got back that I could haul two jugs on my back like that. It was a good feeling!
I’d like people to internalize that cycling isn’t just for recreation and Olympic athletes. Not everybody has time or inclination for 40 milers, but it takes me the same amount of time to bike to work. Seriously, for many short trips it’s almost as efficient as driving, and if you do it regularly your physical fitness will go up, even if you never deliberately train.
Fitness, cost, environment, and improving community safety (people on the streets) all in one go – it’s a win-win situation.
I’ve been away, then stopped journalling for awhile. Let me think-
08/29/09 – 12 miles
08/30/09 – 8.5 miles
08/31/09 – 5 miles
08/03/09 – 3 miles
08/04/09 – 5 miles
Today I noticed a little bit of knee pain when I was going uphill. This is concerning, as google suggests its because of overuse. But I really don’t think I bike that much, although it’s regular.
It could also be because of poor fit to the bike or something, but if it’s that it’s a bit odd that it’s shown up after a few months of regular cycling. I have been trying to up my distance though. I’m going to take a break and look into this more, I don’t want to mess up my knee badly.
07/28/09 – 5 miles
07/30/09 – 35 miles (woohoo! extra points for crossing state lines :)
On the long ride today I brought along an energy bar and I think that was a very good idea.
