Complete the All New 30 Day Song Challenge

40 cheers

Simon has written 34 entries about this goal

1) The song that would be the theme song for the film of your life (to date)

No explanation needed.

Peggy Lee – Is That All There Is?

2) A song that makes you want to get out your lighter and roar along with the crowd

Here’s an oddity. On the face of it, my choice is too fast-paced for lighter-waving, and yet, in my mind, it works perfectly.

Pink Floyd – Another Brick in the Wall Part 2

3) A song that makes you want to throw the radio out of the window rather than listen to it

Well, this is easy. I can choose almost anything from the UK Top Twenty from the last ten years.

I suppose I should be specific. How about this?

4) A song that has an amusingly irritating way of sticking in people’s minds if you sing it, so they end up humming it all day ;p

It’s taken a while to think of a fitting tune. I’m sure that’s down to some kind of protective amnesia; my brain refused to think of a mind-sticking song because it didn’t want to be stuck with it. And now I’ve overcome that reluctance, I’ll be singing this damn song for ages. I hope you do to. :P

Village People – YMCA

5) A song that makes you nostalgic

I’m going to cheat here. This song isn’t about nostaglia per se, it’s about saudade.

Mike And The Mechanics – The Living Years

6) A song that lifts your spirits

Like #8, I have plenty of options here. Should I choose an oldie, a song which lifts my spirits by re-awakening happy memories? Or a newer tune, mentally connected with more up-to-date fun times?

Ah, I know! A song from a couple of years ago, which gets me reminiscing about a road trip across a couple States. We were driving up a slight hill, with wind turbines in the distance, when the first notes drifted from the speakers.

Blake Shelton – Honey Bee

It was a good vacation.

7) A song that reminds you of an ill advised (but wickedly fun) person/place/time

I was roughly thirteen years old, with a bunch of guys of similar age, playing on a construction site, and decided to sing and dance this song while atop a six foot tall stack of bricks. Although it ended badly, with me falling down a gap in the stack, it was a lot of fun. Ah, the happy, carefree days of puberty!

Delta Rhythm Boys – Dry Bones

8) A song linked to a significant event in your life

Oh, there’s such a wide choice! How to choose, how to choose? Sit back, relax, and go with my gut instinct.

Ouch.

Brad Paisley – Wrapped Around

9) A song that should be pumping whilst cruising along in a car on a sunny day with the windows and top down

Once upon a time, I had the perfect tune for sunny-day cruising. And then it was hijacked by less-than-happy associations, so I needed to find another.

Here’s my current share-with-anyone-within-half-a-mile song.

Luke Bryan – Take My Drunk Ass Home

10) A song that speaks to you of teen angst

Paul Hardcastle – 19

And that’s ‘bout all I have to say about that.
