March - giving food to the homeless

I went up to Baltimore with some people from my church, our van loaded up with bags packed with sandwiches, crackers, chips, drinks, and a few other food items; we also had hygiene kits with razors, soap, etc. We first gave these out to lone people just sitting around on benches or around a steam vent, but we made one stop on Hanover Street and a large group of homeless came up to us. We formed a line and handed out everything to them. It felt really good and fulfilling to give food to the homeless, and it’s something I had wanted to do for a couple years.

Meet the Delegates

The other day I attended a political gathering of sorts. People representing different groups from all around the state of Maryland were gathered at the House Office Building for buffet and drinks (and undoubtedly NETWORKING). I got to meet some very interesting people, one of whom was the sheriff. I was also inspired to begin to seek a political related internship for this summer.

Following this gathering, I attended a session of the state House of Delegates. It was the first time I had been inside the Maryland State House, and I found it all very interesting. Being in the building itself was a fulfilling experience all on its own!! :D

Hibachi!!

Yesterday was my first experience going to one of those Japanese places where a chef comes out and cooks your food right in front of you, all the while putting on a show.

I was really glad I had the chance to go, because my parents are too cheap to go somewhere like that and as I have no car I couldn’t take myself (not that I would want to … what’s the point in going by yourself??). It was totally worth it. Everyone always talks about how cool it was, but I had never had the experience first-hand.

The chef was great, playing with cool things like knives and fire. The food was delicious as well, especially the fried rice, although the shrimp when dipped into the Mysterious Brown Sauce (MBS) tastes awesome too! One thing the chef could work on though is his pitching skills. He tried three times to throw a chunk of chicken into peoples’ mouths (twice at me, once at some other guy) and missed every time. (Although he was close every time, it bounced off our lips all three times.)

PS. Japanese chef depicted not actually Japanese chef who cooked for me ;)

last mock trial

Yesterday was the last mock trial competition for my team. We did a VERY good job, our questions were smooth, our opening statement didn’t suck, and i made more objections than usual. We even got our expert witness admitted without a voit dire (the opposing side’s argument on why the witness shouldn’t be allowed to testify as an expert).

Although we lost (dragging our school’s record to 3-4) it was still a fulfilling experience (the whole mock trial season). I know for a fact that I do not want to be a lawyer ;)

Now there is so much less stress on my back because it’s all over. :)

a mock trial for me

Next Tuesday (January 15) I will be defending Jessie Malloy in Maryland v. Malloy

it’s my first ever mock trial competition and i actually find myself looking forward to it. or maybe it’s just because now i get to wear a suit. hm. idk.

many people say it’s easier to be on the defense because all you have to show is reasonable doubt. but i beg to differ, because is the prosecution presents the case well then it’s actually quite hard to form doubt in anybody’s mind.

i just hope i don’t make a fool out of myself. but whether we win or lose, it’ll be a fulfilling experience for this month.
