There are, it has been said, two types of people in the world.
There are those who, when presented with a glass that is exactly half full, say: this glass is half full. And then there are those who say: this glass is half empty.
The world belongs, however, to those who can look at the glass and say: What’s up with this glass? Excuse me? Excuse me? This is my glass? I don’t think so. My glass was full! And it was a bigger glass!

aka rob
The end is near, perhaps, but this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.

The beginning of a habit is like an invisible thread.
Every time you repeat the act you strengthen the strand.
You add to it another filament with each repetition, until it becomes a great
cable and binds you irrevocably to each thought and act.
First you make your habits and then they make you.
Your thoughts lead you to your purpose.
Your purpose always manifests into action.
Your actions form your habits.
Your habits determine your character, and your character fixes your destiny.
i wish i remembered who said this… must have been some philosopher…
EDIT: this is a quote from Aristotle. while cleaning up my desk i found a name card from “7 habits of highly effective people” course i took last year, and that name card has part of the full quote printed on it.

thank u for the invitation, des.
i’m a sucker for a good quotation, and being a member i’ll see all your posts.
i’ll even sacrifice my distrust for organized groups to xpose myself to the collective wisdom of shared quotes.

The glory of friendship is not the outstretched hand, nor the kindly smile, nor is it the joy of companionship. It is the spiritual inspiration that comes to you when you discover that someone else believes in you and is willing to.
– Waldo
i’m kinda guessing oscar meant waldo emerson, but perhaps not. he might as well have an eloguent drinking buddy by that name, and the whole quote might have been spawned by a particularly emotional episode the two (oscar and his buddy waldo) shared.
i’m wondering what oscar was trying to tell me by sending me the quote…
