I look back at previous posts on this goal, and I see myself starting with good intentions but never finishing. I’m now in a job with more web responsibilities, and hopefully the time to learn Python.
Last week I started the first chapter of:
How to Think Like a Computer Scientist
Learning with Python, 2nd Edition
by Jeffrey Elkner, Allen B. Downey and Chris Meyers

Hopefully this time I’ll get farther than before.

Yesterday when I was home sick I started reading an online book about Python programming. It’s pretty simple (so far) and I’m enjoying it!

... which is written in Python.
Spent several hours this week working on tutorials in Django, which is described as a web framework for perfectionists on deadlines. It’s a lot like Rails, the language of 43T.
I don’t understand half of what I did, but got a lot of satisfaction of building a mapping web site. And when I showed it to the programmers who work for me, it bought me just a bit of instant credibility.

Two-plus years ago I joined 43Things with the goal of learning Ruby on Rails. Never did it.
I’m now going to try learning Python – a language being used by more people in web development for media companies. The goal is to build web apps in Django.
