Get my priorities in order

I’ve really been working smarter lately, though not necessarily harder.

I’ve tried to stay focused at work and get things done before deadlines. I can see it paying off in a number of ways. I’m feeling more job satisfaction and I’m accomplishing more.

At home, I’ve given my wife more attention, which is also helping our relationship.

Sadly, this has meant neglecting all my 43Things friends. I do miss you guys so much, and I think of you all often, including those who aren’t here anymore.

Now that I’ve got things more at an even keel, I’ll try poking my head in here more often to see how everybody’s doing.

Twice this week I’ve had some big screw-ups.

I took my birthday off Wednesday, but returned to work to find out I’d forgotten to do an assignment. Luckily, a friend bailed me out.

Then today I realized I’m supposed to work Sunday night – something I’d forgotten about and hadn’t told my wife or put on our calendar at home, which messes up other plans we had.

I need to focus, and get my priorities in order!

Moving to a new spot in the office has somehow changed things. I’m much more busy and in tune with my co-workers than I was when I was off in my own corner. I guess this is a good thing.

I hope to spend more time soon back here catching up with all my 43T friends.

Till then ….

I’ve now come to realize that it’s no longer prudent to post on 43Things from work – at least not my work station. I went to the site the other day and got a proxy server message from the company network indicating it viewed 43T as a social networking site, and that usage is monitored.

I’ve been a bit careless posting and surfing from work. The good old boys I used to know in IT have been replaced by corporate types, and there’s a whole bunch more people at the corporate office looking over my shoulder, I’m sure.

I could try telling them I’m just here researching Web 2.0, but how do I explain the “Kinky Girls Club”?

Doing 43T from home isn’t an option. My wife doesn’t know about it, and this screenname is too well linked to other things she’s not aware of.

Luckily, I do have access to an office laptop that I can use from wi-fi hotspots. Maybe not every day, but I’ll be around.

Starting Sept. 6 I’ll be away from work on vacation until Sept. 17, which means I’ll be away from 43T.

I’ve written a bit lately about some of the issues I’m facing regarding honesty with my wife and myself. I’m hoping this time away (not just from 43T, but from other Internet temptations) will give me some perspective and help me get my priorities in order.
