I may be doing this without realising. I last ate meat on Thursday night, when I had awesome chicken panang thai. mmm.

But that isn’t the point. So basically I haven’t eaten meat for four days and didn’t even notice. Awesome.

I spoke to the parentals, and the little sister, about cutting back our meat consumption. I thought it’d be a little bit hopeful to talk about cutting out meat completely, so I thought I’d ask them how they felt about eating less meat.

Mum, no surprises there, said that she thought it’d be a good idea, as long as I could convince my dad. (Of course she may have just been pretend-supportive since she thought I’d never be able to convince him = P)

Dad’s response was totally unexpected. It shocked me and it shocked mum, the look on her face said it all. I just asked him how he’d feel if we cut back on the meat we ate, especially at dinner, a couple of times a week, and he was completely supportive. He said it was a great idea, that it was healthier, that it would mean we could get creative with what we ate, that there’d be more variety and that it’d open Mel and I up to things we wouldn’t try otherwise. You had to pick my jaw up off the ground, that’s how surprised I was (my dad’s a very “meat and three veg” type guy).

Mel was thrilled. She loves the idea of vegetarian and healthy eating, I never expected her to have a problem with it.

We haven’t talked about how it’ll actually work, or the type of things we’ll eat, but they all seem up for it, so I’m going to start that up soon. I think I’ll aim for two meat-free nights a week (we eat meat pretty much daily), and then maybe increase that, for me at least.

Just means now that I have to learn how to cook = P

I don’t particularly like red meat as it is, but that being said I can’t imagine myself ever being a full-time vegetarian. Chicken calls my name just a little too often.

But I’ve heard some really good things about vegetarian diets, and I’ve been wanting to try it out for a while, so I guess I’ll just see how it goes.

I’m not sure when I’ll do this, my parents complain that I’m fussy enough already when it comes to food. I might need to learn a couple of really good vegetarian dishes, and offer to cook some/most nights.
