Days of the week... and zero to ten... 19 months ago

I learnt all the days of the week and 0-10. So I’m slowly getting there.

It would be good to know some people who I could sign with though, as it’s just me at the moment. But hopefully the college course I’m looking in to will help out with that.

So fingers crossed :o)

Completed learning the alphabet :o) 19 months ago

Hi,

It feels good to have completed the alphabet. Of course this now means I can communicate with deaf people. I have been practising “talking” to myself in sign language (I must have finally flipped talking to myself lol).

I am going to practise a lot for a couple of days, to improve my speed.

I will then move on to common words, and conversation.

I am so pleased. This is definitely worth doing :o)

The only problem is that I don’t know any deaf people. BUT I have realised that I can kill two birds with one stone by volunteering to work with deaf people. That way I will get practise AND be volunteering, and possibly even making new friends, which would be 3 goals in one! Grouping together goals is awesome, call me lazy, but why not? :o)

I’d definitely recommend learning the alphabet in sign.

Byeeeeee x

I have learned letters A-Q (and I know U as vowels are easy) 19 months ago

I only need to learn: R,S,T,V,W,X,Y,Z

After that I need to learn words, but at least if I know the alphabet I can communicate… but v…e…r…y… s…l…o…w…l…y… ;o)

I Dad had a conversation with me today, and he told me that my Grandmother, who’s been dead for over 20 years, had a deaf friend. I now remember why I’ve wanted to learn sign language for so long! When I was 6 I remember her talking to me about it, and how useful it is.

I knew it was her who told me about it all that time ago, but I didn’t know why, i.e. I didn’t realise she had a deaf friend. It is one of only about 2 memories of my grandmother that I remember.

Anyway good luck with everyone else trying this one. It’s so fun. If you get your other friends to learn it, you can communicate in noisy nightclubs… would be kind of naughty talking about people in front of them hehe ;o)

I'm going to learn the alphabet (fingerspelling) 19 months ago

Hi to everyone else doing this goal :o)

I’m from UK so it will be British Sign Language for me:
http://www.british-sign.co.uk/fingerspelling.php

I have printed out the alphabet signs and will carry it on me, so I can learn during any spare moments.

It’s a small step in the right direction. I am feeling good for doing this, yay! :o)

Research available courses 19 months ago

I spoke to an Adult Education Officer and he suggested quite a few things:

I looked at this site and it is pretty good:
